As I sit here at my dining room table writing posts about my fitness journey, I keep pausing to look outside at my front yard. It’s late April and starting to finally feel like spring.
Earlier, I mowed the front yard which is no small feat. We have approximately 2/3rds of an acre, and most of it is grass. So even on my John Deere it takes about an hour just to mow. Thankfully I have collection bins, so I don’t have to go back for the clippings. It’s still a chore, but I actually enjoy doing it, it’s like my Zen garden. I’ve found I’m particular about the direction and pattern of the lines in the grass.
But as I sit here watching a momma bird feed her young in a nest she built in my now dead hanging flower pot, I wonder how weeds grow so fast. One minute they are barely noticeable and the next they are taking over. Some of them are violets the previous owners must have planted at some point, that have managed to make their way out into the yard. Then there’s the onions. Yes onions. We have wild onions growing in my front yard. I’m guessing at some point when this land was still farm land they grew onions. I swear I’ve also found parsley and dill.
Hopefully this weekend will be dry and comfortable and after a day of soccer I can work on re-weeding the lawn and finally putting the mulch in.
